Week 2: Overview of Social Media Use

Social media is the new communication style! Very powerful! Easy, fast, and convenient! A message can go virile in seconds, if done correctly. I love social media. I have a few social media accounts.
Personal Use
For personal use, I use LinkedIn and Facebook. These applications are great for job hunting or being updated with friends or family members. LinkedIn provides a great opportunity to network with hiring companies and members from the organization. In today's world, it is who you know when it comes to obtaining a job. The key is networking! In Facebook, I login to be updated with my close friends and family members. My life is too busy and don't have time to make personal visits or phone calls. Facebook me to catch up with everyone, at once. Very powerful! Through Facebook, I know who is on vacation or what their doing. I enjoy Facebook!

Business Use
For business, I prefer Skype, Google+, Pinterest, and Twitter. These applications are seen a little more professional and business preference. These apps are simple, quick, and allowing to share. Our world is becoming easier with all these new applications. LinkedIn could also be used for business, as you can advertise jobs and recruit members.

Preference
Everyone needs to have a personal and business accounts. You cannot mix your personal ad professional life. At times you can, but not all the time. This is very delicate. Don't put yourself in the situation, and have difference accounts for personal and business related social networking. Tip #1: don't post things or photos that could give you a bad reputation. Everything online can be forward and reposted. Be careful on what you post.

Enjoy the social media world!

  1. Hi Jasmin. I'm so glad you mentioned about separating business and personal pages for social media use. I have found it's important also to be wise in how you represent yourself on your personal profile when you own a business as well. It is very easy to find owners of a business on social media, especially Facebook.

  2. When I first started my business, I didn't have much knowledge about social media and how to use it wisely. I mixed my personal account with business one. It doesn't only confuse customers but I was confused with it as well. However, I sometimes have to show my face to make my page looks like a real thing (not a robot) that my customers can communicate with me and it works well so far.

  3. Hi Jasmin! Love the font! I agree about not mixing the business with the personal website. You made some very valid points about being selective about what you post because everyone is looking and has an opinion and it only takes one little thing to sabotage a reputation. Nice blog!!.

  4. Hi Jasmin,,
I too like the font but maybe not for large postings. It slows the reader down.. I use creative fonts for Headers and Titles, but more conservative ones for the body of the post. I want people to read what I write.

I agree that one should separate the business and personal side. Having said that, even on my personal page I am very careful what I post. I stay away from controversial subjects like politics and only repost things that really get my attention. Maybe that's a cop-out but many of my customers also see my personal page and I'd rather nothing come back to bite me.

    1. I see businesses use Skype for the purpose of taking interviews if the interviewee is unable to attend or in far distance. Or used to join the online meeting. Skype in business used for instant message and recording meetings.
